Biography - 500 Block Granville Street - Circa 1906 < Back to Gallery
Looking north on Dunsmuir, it was in 1907 that bylaw #598
was passed to alter the name of a certain street known as ‘Center Street’ in Vancouver to ‘South Granville Street’.
The downtown core was becoming more populated with
industry headquarters, manufacturing, banks, shopping
and entertainment; the City of Vancouver drew up a
proposal to purchase land from the C.P.R in 1909. The
land in question was the north and south approaches of
the Granville St. bridge. The sale of land was immediate
and a committee was formed to oversee the building of
the Granville bridge.South Granville is now classified as Granville & 16th to
Granville & 71st St. Like the early 1900’s, any tourist or
local resident will not find themselves very far from a
trip
to or a connection via Granville Street.
