Biography - BC Veterinary Hospital- Circa 1928 < Back to Gallery
In 1895 an animal anti-cruelty bill was passed in BC, initiating the formation of the BC S.P.C.A. This ‘Not for Profit’ group was authorized to investigate and enforce complaints of abuse toward animals and to propose new legislation. Today the BC S.P.C.A has 37 branches, most of which operate a local animal shelter while others provide services through satellite adoption centers and foster homes.
Animals have always been pampered in Vancouver. You don’t have to travel far to find an animal hospital or shelter, gourmet pet food, animal salon, pet friendly B&B, or an off-leash park (with breathtaking views). Dr. Trevely Sleeth had created the first chain of cat & dog hospitals in BC and with his colleagues, are responsible in large part for the movement that created our animal loving community.
